Work underway on economics extension

Work has begun on the new $8 million extension to the Copland Building.

Sod turningANU Chancellor Emeritus Professor Peter Baume began the work in December by turning the first sod on the site. The extension will house the School of Economics and will include state-of-the-art lecture theatres including seven new teaching areas, a spacious foyer and offices for academic staff.

The design also incorporates a bridge connecting the extension to the top floor of the existing Copland Building.

It is expected that the Copland extension will be completed in December 2005 in time for the 2006 academic year.

Professor Baume was joined at the sod-turning by Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Commerce, Professor Keith Houghton, and Head of the School of Economics, Professor Tim Hatton, as well as several other ANU and external representatives.
