Targeted course a good fit for industry

Links between the University and industry remain strong as the latest participants in a policy-focussed postgraduate course receive their degrees this month.

The 19 graduates from the federal industry portfolio have completed a Master of Public Policy (Industry Strategy) at the Asia Pacific School of Economics and Government (APSEG).

APSEG developed the course in conjunction with the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, which sponsors participants.

Program Manager John Bowdler from APSEG said the department and the University benefit from the partnership.

“This degree assists in developing policy capacity and making the department more attractive, as recruiting and retaining key people in Canberra can be difficult,” he said.

“Students, meanwhile, see it as a valuable experience and a chance to develop a postgraduate degree.

“It also shows the capacity of ANU to develop focussed-postgraduate programs and to tailor them to the needs of organisations. We use a lot of key ANU people to deliver courses, plus people from industry.

"It shows how we can coordinate a valuable program to meet a perceived need in a government agency.”

This is the seventh year in which APSEG has offered the specialised degree.
