The University will use $20,000 dollars raised through its Tsunami Appeal to provide scholarships that will enable academics from tsunami-affected regions to visit ANU.
The appeal fund, set up in January to allow staff donations to help recovery following the Boxing Day tsunami, raised $10,000.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian Chubb, confirmed dollar-for-dollar matching funds from the University this month.
The fund will contribute to educational recovery in tsunami-affected areas by providing stipends for staff from devastated regions to come to ANU to continue academic studies.
Potential candidates who could benefit from this initiative are currently being identified.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), Professor Malcolm Gillies, announced the initiative at the opening of an exhibition of photographs documenting the tsunami aftermath by Australian photojournalists at the School of Art on Thursday, 23 June.
